Anthropic / current
Frontier intelligence at scale for coding, agents and enterprise workflows.
The Sonnet line is positioned at the capability-efficiency intersection for tool-heavy production systems. Sonnet 5 is Anthropic's frontier-at-scale tier for coding, data analysis, content, vision and agentic tools. It combines a 1M context and 128K output with lower latency than the top tiers.
A practical primary model for software and enterprise agents. Keep tool schemas narrow, return thinking blocks unchanged, and remove model-specific thinking content when switching a conversation to another family.
Model IDs, context limits and regional support can differ across clouds; verify each deployment target. Adaptive thinking is on by default and differs from Haiku's manual extended-thinking API. Model switches inside an active conversation require careful handling of prior thinking blocks.
Specifications and positioning checked against provider documentation.
